【１年生】First Graders Discover the Power of Lines

First graders have been busy exploring the many ways that lines can be used in art. We started by looking closely at the world around us and noticing straight, curved, zigzag, wavy, dashed, spiral, thin, and thick lines in our classroom. Using Seesaw, students documented their discoveries and shared what they found with each other.

This term, we began working with Procreate, which gave everyone new tools to experiment with. Students quickly learned how to combine different types of lines to create their own colorful and imaginative designs. Some chose sharp, bold zigzags, while others preferred smooth curves or flowing waves to show movement.

Many students said they enjoyed seeing how their lines could turn into shapes, patterns, and even stories. The activity gave them a chance to practice digital art skills while also expressing their own creativity and ideas.

Next, we are excited to study Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night. Students will look closely at how Van Gogh used lines to create movement in the sky and then try using similar techniques in their own artwork.

Our first graders are learning that lines aren’t just simple marks on a page—they are powerful tools for showing energy, emotion, and imagination!

1年生の児童たちは、図工の時間に線のいろいろな表現を学んでいます。まずは教室の中をよく観察し、まっすぐな線、曲がった線、ギザギザの線、波のような線、点線、らせん、細い線、太い線などを見つけました。見つけた線は Seesaw に記録して、お互いに発表し合いました。

2学期からは Procreate を使い始め、児童たちはさらに表現の幅を広げています。さまざまな線を組み合わせて、自分だけのカラフルで想像力あふれるデザインを描きました。力強いジグザグを選んだ児童もいれば、なめらかな曲線や流れるような線で動きを表した児童もいます。

「線で形や模様ができるのがおもしろい！」「線で物語が生まれるみたい！」と感じた児童も多く、デジタルでの表現に挑戦しながら、自分のアイデアを自由に形にしていました。

次の学習では、フィンセント・ファン・ゴッホの《星月夜》 を鑑賞します。ゴッホがどのように線を使って夜空に動きを表したのかを学び、その技法を自分たちの作品に生かしていきます。

1年生の児童たちは、線がただの「しるし」ではなく、エネルギーや気持ち、そして想像力を伝える力を持っていることを発見しています！
